Caingangue
Parentage
A second generation cross between the American cultivar Cherokee and
a selection, Black 1, which by its turn originated from a cross
between Shaffer Tree and Brazos, made at EMBRAPA/Clima Temperado,
Brazil.
Fruit Quality
The berries are roundish shaped with small drupelets. They are firm,
with a balanced sweet acid taste and medium size seeds.
Yield and Fruit Size
Average size 6g/berry. The average production in Southern Brazil is
3.5kg per plant.
Season
Ripens about the same time as Tupy.
Plant Characteristics
The plants are vigorous, erect, thorny and propagate easily.
Chilling requirement is less than 200 hours.
Guarani
Parentage
Originated from a cross made at the University of Arkansas: [Lawton
x (Darrow x Brazos)] X (Shaffer tree x Brazos) and selected at
EMRAPA/Clima Temperado, Brazil.
Fruit Quality
Very dark and uniform colour. Sweet acid flavour, with predominance
of acidity. The berries are firm and the seeds are small.
Yield and Fruit Size
Average production in Southern Brazil is 3.6kg per plant. The
average size is 5 - 6g/berry.
Season
Ripens a week after Tupy.
Plant Characteristics
Plants are erect, thorny type, vigorous, with good capability for
suckering. It is a low chilling cultivar.
Xavante
Parentage
Originated from a cross A 1620 x A 1507.
Fruit Quality
Berry shape is oblong and flavour is sweet acid with a moderate
astringency. Fruit firmness is just average. Soluble solids (percent
sugar) levels range between 6.5 and 8%. Mainly suitable for
processing.
Yield and Fruit Size
Production is between 2.6 and 4.0 t/ha. Berries range from 1.8 to
2.2 cm in diameter, average weight is 5.7 -6.1g/berry.
Season
Early ripening.
Plant Characteristics
Erect, vigorous, thornless canes. Has a low chilling requirement,
estimated at less than 250 hours.
