Parentage / Origin
Kweli (formerly selection 35) was bred by Advanced Berry Breeding
in the Netherlands.
Season
The harvest season is similar to or slightly later than Polka.
Kweli is suitable for double cropping in the spring and autumn, with
good results having been achieved in trials.
Plant Characteristics
The plant has a well branched structure from top to bottom of the
canes and the fruit is easily visible to the pickers. The canes have
short spines which are a striking green in colour.
Fruiting Characteristics
The fruit of Kweli are an attractive light orange-red in colour
and do not darken after harvest, with a shelf-life of up to 10 days
not being exceptional. Berries are large (averaging >5 grams in
early trials) and this is maintained in double cropping. Flavour is
good and the fruit is very easy to harvest.
Pest & Disease Resistance
Kweli is resistant to most common pests and diseases.
Potential Uses
An exciting new primocane raspberry with excellent yields for
spring and autumn cropping. Both crops produce fruit of superb size,
quality, flavour and shelf life.
