Parentage Manille was raised from a cross
between Gariguette and a Marionnet numbered selection, which
included Mara des Bois in its pedigree.
Season
Manille is an early/mid-season season cultivar.
Fruit Quality
The berries are short conical in shape, medium red to carmine in
colour and have a very glossy skin finish. The flavour is sweet with
high sugar and low acidity levels, and berries have a distinctive
aroma. The berries are firm, do not bruise easily and shelf-life is
good.
Yield
Manille has a high yield potential, producing 0.7-1kg per plant
with cold-stored plants and 0.6kg/plant with fresh plants.
Plant Characteristics
Plants are moderately vigorous with an upright/spreading habit.
Runner production is prolific. The fruit is well displayed to
pickers and is easy to harvest.
Disease Resistance
Manille has excellent resistance to powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca
macularis) on both foliage and fruit. Manille has good tolerance to
wilt (Verticillium dahliae), crown rot (Phytophthora cactorum) and
red core (P. fragariae).
