Origin
Roodneus is from a cross between Jonkheer van Tets and Ribes
multiflorum. It was selected in 1963 and introduced in 1990.
Cropping
Season and Growth Habit It is a late ripening variety. Later than
Rovada, picking starts first week of August. The plants are vigorous
and easy to grow
Fruit Quality
The fruits are large, even sized and bright dark red in colour. The
fruit is easy to pick and may be good for machine harvesting. The
fruit stands up well to wet conditions. Roodneus has been commercially
grown for several years in the Netherlands.
Roodneus fruit is excellent for cold storage under ultra low oxygen
conditions. Growers keep the fruit in cold store until the end of
March or early April, and sell them as fresh product as the strigs are
still bright green in April. The yield can be 15 to 20 tons/ha.
Disease Resistance
Roodneus is resistant to American gooseberry (Sphaerotheca morsuvae)
mildew and leafspot (Pseudopeziza ribis). |
