Characteristics of Malling™ Pearl
- Exceptional fruit quality
- Sweet, juicy berries
- Large, attractive berries
- High fruit yield
Malling™ Pearl has a yield similar to Everest but the average fruit size is larger, with a significantly higher proportion in the large size category (>35mm). The percentage waste is low. To maximise the fruit yield it is essential to use protection with polythene tunnels in the later part of the season.
Plants have similar vigour to Everest but runner production is greater and it is important to remove the runners regularly to maximise yield.
Malling™Pearl is moderately resistant to powdery mildew (Podosphaera aphanis). A susceptibility to crown rot (Phytophthora cactorum) has been observed in trials.
Malling™ Pearl (EMR 286) is protected under Community (EU) Plant Variety Rights (Grant No. EU21938). The propagation and sale of plants, or parts of plants, of Malling™ Pearl without a licence is prohibited. Only Propagation Licence holders can propagate and receive propagation grade material (and not Sales or Growing-on Transformation Licence holders).
