  • Sweetly aromatic flavour
  • Performs well in substrate production
Cropping Season
Malling™ Sunrise has a very early cropping season, typically 10 days before Elsanta in the UK.

Fruit Quality
Berries are attractive, regular conical shape with slightly darker red colour than Elsanta. Berries have moderate firmness and sweetly aromatic flavour. Brix levels average 8.2 in trials.

Fruit Yield
Malling™ Sunrise has good Class 1 main crop yields with reasonable 60-day performance. Berry size is similar to Elsanta, although tending to reduce in size later in the harvest period.

Plant Characteristics
Plants have a upright, leafy, open habit with good plant vigour. Fruit is well displayed.

Disease Resistance
Malling™ Sunrise shows similar susceptibility to Verticillium wilt (Verticillium dahliae) and powdery mildew (Podosphaera aphanis) as Elsanta in tests conducted at East Malling Research. Plants show more susceptibility to crown rot (Phytophthora cactorum) than Elsanta, so second-hand beds should be avoided. However, in substrate and sterilised soil plants do well.
