Plant & Disease Characteristics
Sweetheart has a compact plant habit, displays good plant vigour with a denser leaf canopy than Elsanta,. The fruit is easy to pick and afforded good protection by the leaves. Sweetheart shows moderate resistance to powdery mildew (Podosphaera aphanis) with a similar level of susceptibility to crown rot (Phytothphora cactorum) and Verticillium wilt (Verticillium dahliae) as Elsanta, though there have been no particular problems with these diseases in grower trials.
