Squamish is an early season variety, with a 50% pick date 10-14 days before Tulameen.
The berries of Squamish are conical shaped, very bright and glossy in appearance and medium red in colour. Fruit size is slightly smaller compared to Tulameen, are reasonably firm with cohesive drupelets and have a good shelf life. The fruit have an excellent aromatic flavour and with consistently higher Brix levels compared to Tulameen.
Squamish produces a high yield for an early season variety.
Squamish produces a moderate number of canes which are medium to tall in height and upright to spreading in habit. Although the canes do have spines these mostly occur at the base of the canes, making them pleasant to handle. The fruit is well presented and detaches readily, making Squamish easy and fast to pick.
Based on the results of the original Canadian trials, Squamish is resistant to six of the seven common biotypes of Amphorophora agathonica, which is the main vector of aphid-borne viruses in North America. Squamish exhibits an excellent degree of field resistance to root rot caused by Phytophthora rubi. Squamish is susceptible to raspberry bush dwarf virus and spur blight (Didymella applanata).
